FTL: Faster than Light

The more training grounds in games, the less work remains our imagination. Modern games shine with almost photorealistic graphics, the production of KAT scenes is no longer inferior to Hollywood, and the characters say celebrity voices. There is no need to think up or think about something-everything is done for you. From this, sometimes I want to fall into a viscous nostalgia and recall the times when the dry lines of the text and a handful of pixels had to be turned into a real adventure.

In this sense, ftl – hello from the past. Scary boats, crookedly little men and angular beams here magically turn into multi -ton destroyers and living crew with their own cosmic Odyssia.

In infinity and further

FTL: Faster than Light – This is clean as a tear, indie. The face is terrible, but infinitely beautiful inside. Without opening anything fundamentally new, this game nevertheless can rightfully claim the title of one of the best cosmic adventures in the industry. If only because your every star path will not look like the previous.

FTL has exactly two points-stops. The first is a tie. You are the captain of the spaceship of a conditionally good federation, in which critically important information fell into the hands, it must be delivered as soon as possible to the headquarters. So that life does not seem to be honey, on your heels followed by an armada of the rebels who really do not want the courier mission to end successfully – so in your interests to tear claws and fly through the whole galaxy to your goal. The second regular point is the final battle with the boss, the destroyer destroyer. Actually, everything. How your journey from point A will go to point B, alone God knows.

[[Bullet]] The rebel fighter cut down our engines and now slowly shoots the ship. The only chance to survive is to quickly bring the machine department into a divine view and rush at over-line speed somewhere far away.

Faster than Light is almost entirely kept on random numbers generator. This is an extremely exciting cross of Rogue-RPG and simulator Jean-Luka Picard from the Star Way. You perceive each leap from the system to the system exactly with the same excitement and trepidation as during the opening of some very rare chest in Diablo 3. Developers without respite play with you in Russian roulette. For example, at the other end of the nebula, you may meet friendly aliens who will offer the crew to take part in the experiment for a reward. Or pirates who are ready to give a bribe, if only you just did not build a hero from yourself and did not interfere in the affairs of the romantics from the high road. Or a rescue capsule with a pilot surviving from the mind, which will blow up your engine room. Or…

Captains are not born

And there are a great many such. You yourself are looking for problems. On the one hand, excitement constantly spur, curiosity and desire to collect more than the local loot, whether it is weapons, scrap metal, drawings of droids, crew, ammunition, perki, and so on. On the other hand, you are constantly running away from the pursuers and sometimes forced to make complex decisions: somewhere you will have to reduce the path through the asteroid field, somewhere to fly past the store, and somewhere to sell the on-board medicine, exchanging it for fuel ..

[[Bullet]], according to the law of meanness, stores come across exclusively when in the pocket of Shish with oil.

On average, one game session lasts only an hour, but this time is so saturated with small events and clinging to living turns, which is enough with excess. FTL, like a virtuoso neurosurgeon, climbs into your cranial box and stimulates the center of imagination. Everything is like in old text RPG: three sentences are enough to describe a small episode of your adventure. Gradually, these episodes are built in the personal Road-Movie in the galaxy. FTL is “Star Wars”, “Star Way”, “Firefly”, “Star cruiser“ Galaxy ”,“ On the edge of the Universe ”and Lexx with you in the title role.

"I have a bad foreboding …"

But in most cases, your individual cosmoope operator will end with a solemn flight of the crew into outer space without a spacesuit. In order to get real pleasure from FTL, you need to have a samurai readiness to death, because the random situation generator here is not skimp on not only gingerbread, but also visible blows with a whip. It will be often and sometimes very ridiculous to die, and luxury is loading and trying to go through the situation in a different way. But for some reason this does not cause rabies attacks. On the contrary, every defeat makes you stronger and wiser – henceforth you will know that not all aliens put humane experiments in public, that you should not always headlong to help peaceful ships, that not all pirates need to be destroyed by flying. And given that the game can be passed in an hour, you almost do not think about the lost progress.

[[Bullet]] rebels are already literally stepping on the heels. Chubakka, go to hyperspace, All Wins Casino sister sites vividly!

In addition, with almost every new attempt, a slightly different tactic is used. FTL-in a good way a hardcore and deep game, in which there is a huge space for maneuver. Pumped technologies, different types of weapons, unique upgrades and crew skills – all these variables can change the passage beyond recognition. By the end of the trip from the ship, an impenetrable and elusive tank, the shields of which are recharged faster than enemy guns. Or a quick fighter teleporting incendiary bombs directly to the enemy compartments. Or surrounded by a flock of droids cruiser, taking the enemy on boarding. Such "or", again, here is a darkness.

Probably the only claim to FTL: Faster than Light is that the Universe is completely devoid of its face. It looks like all cosmic sagas at once, woven from archetypes: ion guns, aliens-scientists, aliens-warriors, super-light jumps, teleports and robots. As an independent universe FTL, nothing is worthless, but this can be forgiven. Because, paradoxically, even without individuality, FTL manages to become a very personal adventure in the first minutes, which pays out its more than divine price tag in $ 10.
